 ASUU AND FEDERAL GOVERNMENT TO HOLD AN EMERGENT MEETING TODAY BY 4PM TO FINALIZE TERMS ABOUT STRIKE It's no longer news that ASUU and FG had been holding meetings for countless times, ever since their 8 months strike started, right from the Covid-19 period to the post-Covid-19 period. All this while, students in the federal and state-owned universities and even some private universities that are registered with ASUU to remain on compulsory holiday even after permission was given by the government for the resumption of all business activities due to the decline in the number of Covid-19 cases. During this period the federal government had disagreed lots of time with the representatives of the branches of the Academic body (ASUU). This loggerhead between these two parties focuses on revitalization and salary arrears payments of staffs/members of ASUU. FG UNDER THE AEGIS OF THE MINISTRY OF LABOUR AND EMPLOYMENT IS ASSURING THAT FEDERAL UNIVERSITY WILL RESUME IN JANUARY 2021 The Minister of Labour and Employment, Senator Chris Ngige, says the Academic Activities in Nigeria Universities will resume January. He says the negotiations between the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) and the Federal government had reached 98 percent, adding that it remains only two percent to be completed He spoke Monday in Alor, Idemili South local government area of Anambra State, during the launch of Ngige free medical outreach at the Community's Health Center. Ngige said, "We have met about 98 percent of the request of ASUU. Some 5 to 2 percent is what you can call promissory notes.   THE ACADEMIC STAFF UNION OF UNIVERSITIES (ASUU) HAVE POSTPONED THEIR SCHEDULED MEETING WITH THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT This statement was made on their official Twitter page. This brought about so many reactions and mixed views Some are showcasing the skills they have learnt just because of the occurrence of the strike and are even desiring to learn more Others are saying that if the strike is not called off on time before next year January, then it would be the turn of them (the students) to show their own anger. STRIKE: WE ARE STILL CONSULTING - ASUU PRESIDENT The national leadership of the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, has said it is still consulting on what its reply will be to the offers the Federal Government made for it to end its eight-month-old strike. The National President, Prof. Biodun Ogunyemi, said this on Tuesday in a chat with Vanguard. According to him, the consultation is with members across the country and other critical stakeholders. “We have what the government is offering and have transmitted the same to our members nationwide and we are consulting on what the next line of action will be. You know a tree does not make a forest and our union is democratic in nature and practice. “As for how long the consultation would take, I cannot say but it may go beyond this week. FG  ENGAGES 17,000 YOUTHS  IN RABBIT FARMING By - IGWESI ONYEDIKACHI VICTOR   The Federal Government on Wednesday announced the commencement of its programme on rabbit farming that would engage 17,000 youths across the country. It made the announcement through its National Agricultural Land Development Authority, noting that the programme had already commenced in some states, as it would engage more participants in the southern part of Nigeria. The Executive Secretary, NALDA, Paul Ikonne, told journalists in Abuja that the agency would provide the rabbits, cage, vaccine and training for participants free of charge. He said the first set of beneficiaries would be required to bring back the kitten from the rabbits they train, to be used in the empowerment of other youths.
